At times like this, I think we could all do with the following reminder: amid all of the ugliness that has unfolded over the last eighteen months, America is not ugly at all, but a visually stunning work of art. Sometimes, we forget this; sometimes, it's hard to see the woods for the trees. But then, wasn't it Bob Ross who saw happy trees?

Right now, in this time of profound uncertainty, perhaps we could do with stepping outside. Perhaps we could do with seeing America's beauty for ourselves. So what are you waiting for?

Laurence Brown is a British man writing his way through the truly bizarre world of America - a place he sometimes accidentally calls home and a place he still hasn't quite figured out after seven years. Thankfully, his journey is made 12% easier by the fact that his accent makes him sound much smarter than he is. For evidence of this, subscribe to his popular Lost in the Pond web series over on YouTube.

  1. Shall we all sing an American Tune? (Melody line of this song immigrated from Germany via J.S. Bach's chorale from St. Matthew Passion. Well.....we all are mosaic pieces from elsewhere, aren't we?)

  2. Yes, America is breathtaking and we take it for granted. We are resilient and still a young country going through growing pains.
