Me and Tarah

Nearly three years ago, I posted the above image to Facebook. The distinctly British tee-shirt—so often a feature of my channel's visual output—found itself, that day, lost in a sea of stars and stripes. The day was July the fourth—America's Independence Day.

All too aware of which country the United States had defeated en route to gaining its independence, I intended such a display of national pride to be entirely tongue-in-cheek. That didn't, however, stop some of you turning your gaze toward the second person in the picture, all the while speculating on his intentions. Watch the video to find out more.

Laurence Brown is a British writer and YouTuber who somehow convinced the city of Chicago to let him in. He is an English Language graduate from Lancaster University and a passionate word etymologist, with a particular interest in British and American neologisms. Since moving to the United States, he has become increasingly curious about Britain's historical influence on American culture and about America in general.
